I disagree! From the (sometimes) excellent XKCD comic.
Rainbow tables
Rainbow tables are an elegant way to restore ‘forgotten’ passwords (cough). Basically, it helps computing the reverse of an MD5-hash.
Wikipedia tries to explain it, but I found this nice write-up much more accessible. Bad graphics though 🙂
Blast pictures
I found this website with pictures of nuclear blasts. Nuclear blasts are bad, but those pictures are great!
An exceptionally simple theory of everything
This guy has apparently come up with a relatively simple, testable alternative for string theory. Let’s see if it holds up.
The article talks about E8-geometry. Never heard of it, but in this animation it sure looks pretty.

Retirement
I like this cartoon I found on Miss Cellania:
Billy!
Who would have thought there’s a system to Ikea’s naming madness? Apparently there is! Wikipedia has the full story.
How brainwashing works
I’ve been a member of a student fraternity for a short while, and I found the following description of how brainwashing works eerily recognizable. Could very well be applied to religion or politics.
The history of Mario
A (short?) history of Mario – from his humble roots in Donkey Kong to the new Super Mario Galaxy. Nice.
Spam art
I found this nice collection of spam art on Boing Boing. I really like it 🙂
Rita Tovenaar
Rita Verdonk is a Dutch politician that I dislike quite a bit. That’s probably the reason why I really like this short clip by the Dutch collective KoefNoen.

Thirty
Today I turned 30. This is bad enough already, so I decided to give myself a nice present: a blog. Woohoo, finally I got myself a blog 🙂
Everyone seems to have one already, but somehow – despite my background in technology – I never had one. I will try to write something interesting every once in a while, most likely about technology or politics.
But not today – today I’ll just celebrate my birthday. Hurray!
